Deus’ research focuses on genomic basis of susceptibility/resistance to malaria and genomic epidemiology of malaria and other infectious pathogens. He also works on medical laboratories and diagnostic capacity for common infectious pathogens and other diseases in low income communities.

Deus has been involved in studies of molecular epidemiology and diseases surveillance and building both field sites and laboratory capacity for his research. He is currently involved in implementing clinical trials testing different antimalarials, and studies of antimalarial drug resistance, genetic diversity and population structure of Plasmodium falciparum.
