Parasito Deputy Secretary General Gambie

Dr Alfred Amambua-Ngwa is an Medical Research Council (MRC UK) Career Development Fellow at MRC Unit The Gambia (MRCG). He has a PhD in Biochemistry with research focused on the application of molecular biology to understanding the pathogenesis and epidemiology of onchocerciasis and malaria. He has built a research group at MRCG with capacity for in vitro drug susceptibility and erythrocyte invasion phenotyping, SNP and microsatellite genotyping, whole genome sequencing and population genetics analyses of natural Plasmodium falciparum isolates. The overall goal of these phenotype-genotype variation studies across populations is to support the development of epidemiologic markers, vaccine and drug development, and early determination of new patterns of spatial and temporal pathogen population flux. He leads the H3Africa PAMGEN project in collaboration with 7 PDNA sites and the MalariaGEN consortia.
